How to Measure Your Bandsaw Blade Length

Method 1: Measure the Old Blade

The easiest method. Remove your old blade, lay it flat on the floor, and measure end to end along the blade's length. This gives you the exact circumference.

Method 2: Use a String

  1. Open your bandsaw and release the blade tension
  2. Route a piece of string or flexible tape measure around the wheels, following the same path the blade takes
  3. Mark where the string overlaps
  4. Measure the string flat - that's your blade length

Method 3: Calculate from Wheel Diameter

If you know your bandsaw's wheel diameter and the distance between wheel centers:

Blade Length = (π × wheel diameter) + (2 × center distance)

This gives an approximation. Add 1/2" for blade tension adjustment.
